Alcelaphus buselaphus -- AKA, Hartebeest. Strong and fast enough, awkward appearing yet solid build, unique markings, herbivore, watchful, high endurance, non-aggressive, vigorous defenders, sticks to a small herd... As an avatar, a Red Hartebeest suits me pretty well. The Chinese figure is supposed to represent determination, not sure if it is accurate. The background texture is composed of pieces of older illustrations - the clothing and such.

Inari©her creator. Rather then illustrate one fox with nine tails- I figured, why not illustrate nine foxes forming a similar visual effect, a "visual metaphor". Font used is called "Mothera"- a truly fun combination of oriental characters grouped to form something similar to english letter forms.

Inari©HerCreator. First, art nouveau trade picture I ever did. This image still stands as one of my best art nouveau-style cloth designs, despite five years of trying to out-do it. The wings in the background are just clip art: a trick with placing BMP images into Adobe Illustrator designs that I've been experimenting with for a while now.

Feb. 2005 14"x18", watercolor and india ink. There's a lot I could say about this piece - but to keep myself from writing a novel, I will just say this - This piece went through many transformations to get to this point. This originally started as an ink sketch of a piaffe (a dressage move) and then took off from there. I am fascinated with the idea of transformation, it is a constant inspiration I explore with a lot of my art. I think that is part of why I find myself so drawn to northwest coast native american art styles - their bold stylization covers a heavy theme of transformation and connection. Horses can fly without wings, they use the wings within.

Maybe it was something about the way she looked. Maybe it was how she knew all the words to "Horst Wessel Lied". Maybe it was the smoking Mauser in her hand as she stood over the body. For Moonfeather's competition on Deviantart Probably the most complete background I have ever done. Though I still need a lot of work on depth. And my first go on illustration board! Moth is a pyro-autistic blacksmith - embers are his hearts delight and if he gets entranced on a piece he is working on he might not rember to eat for days.

Xing is a blind Boobook owl that my neighbors look after. She's also the backup vocalist for a song one of my childhood friends recently won an award for. She's launching her first CD tomorrow (the friend, not the owl) and I'm putting art up at the gig - I whipped this out last night for it.
